Title: U.S. Postal Service
Post by: Hawkmoon on May 01, 2021, 01:18:26 PM
It ain't what it used ta was.

I heard the mail truck pull into my driveway, so I looked out the window to see which door the delivery gal was going to leave my package at. Silly me.

She pulled in, stopped with the front wheels on the grass, and just tossed the box out the window onto the ground. Which explains why I have previously found packages in that general area. I wondered why she couldn't take the trouble to walk another ten feet to leave the package either on the (covered) front stoop on on the (covered) breezeway next to the garage. Now I know -- she's too lazy to even get out of the truck.

I have to say that I've never had that problem with any of my carriers. Even the weekend guy, who is an unfriendly horse's ass, drives down my 1/4 mile driveway with packages that don't fit in the mailbox and walks them to my front door. What she's doing should be a fireable offense. Even as screwed up as USPS can be, no supervisor would put up with that if they knew about it.

My big complaint with them right now is paying for two day delivery that is delivered literally two WEEKS later.

This thread is worthless without video, preferably uploaded to you tube! :)

My "carrier" doesn't seem to like reaching down into the outgoing mail box to retrieve Monarch (the small ones) envelopes.  Number 10s (the standard size) are OK, she doesn't have to fish around in there to pick them up.

Leave an outgoing Monarch in there on a Friday, she misses it on Saturday, it doesn't go out until Monday... if then.

I'm bearing in mind that according to something I read a long time ago, they aren't actually obligated to pick up mail in outgoing mailboxes.

We used to have a clothespin on the box you could use to indicate there was mail to pick up, but she objected to that.

I kept out of it, but apparently there's a couple of people in the building who've complained about her.  Doesn't seem to matter, she's still a jerk.

So I quit using Monarchs and have an almost-full box of them sitting in my office supply drawer.

When we first moved into the house we're at now the mail carrier for the neighborhood seem to think the house numbers on the envelopes were merely a suggestion that they only needed to follow when they felt like it. Went on like that for a couple years until they replaced him with no amount of complaining to the PO making a difference until then.

I think that is an all too common complaint. Sometimes I feel I should be getting a check for doing mail delivery. If I get someone else's mail I will walk it to them. Hopefully they will do the same but somehow I doubt it.

Our biggest complaint is the amount of time it seems to get some items delivered. It was getting pretty bad for a while so we stopped using the neighborhood mail box outgoing mail slot and just drive it all to the local Post Office, that seems to have cured the chronic late delivery of our mail. Carrier issue? Maybe.

Our carrier was so bad that we sometimes would go two days without any mail service.  When we got it, it was usually delivered as late as 6:30 pm.  We might have gotten a new carrier, as the mail suddenly started arriving daily around 4:00.

Our main carrier and sub are both good people.  Rarely misdeliver mail and when larger stuff comes they will bring to the door or leave in the garage if the main door happens to be open.  Like anything else, there are some folks who wouldn't make a pimple a good person's butt.

My rural route carrier is awesome. She does a great job of not only getting my stuff in the box/on the porch, but makes sure it's in a spot the FL afternoon thunderstorms don't muck it up.

If I'm in the garage or front yard with the dog, she'll offer a biscuit.

I’m lucky, when we moved almost two years ago we just happened to move onto a route of a woman who’s been a client of mine for about 10 years. She even auto sorts out the junk mail for us.

Our local post office is terrible.  I use the Informed Delivery service on-line which gives you pictures of the mail to be delivered that day and tells you when packages are delivered.  Here it is more of a suggestion.  Listed mail pieces usually come that day, but could be a day or three later.  Or not show up at all.  Couple weeks ago, we were supposed to receive three packages from Amazon.  Two of them showed up on the doorstep.  Checked on-line and all three were verified as delivered, though the one I didn't get was supposedly delivered 16 minutes before the other two.  I went to the Post Office and asked about it, they said they would investigate.  Yeah, right.  Luckily, Amazon gave us a refund on the missing items.

That small town thing. I know all the mail carriers and they will stop if they see me in town to give me my mail and also so they don't have to go to the end of the line outside town.

Same with my UPS delivery guy. The only problem I ever have is with FedEx. They have gotten better this year.

We're lucky,  our mail lady is awesome.  Friendly,  doesn't mind the dogs and just all around nice.  We take good care of her at Christmas.

Mail lady great. Larger world of the postal service is priority mail turkey eggs have showed as being 100 miles from my house for 6 days. They are done, too old to incubate.

Our local rural carriers are pretty solid, I don't remember the last time I had an issue with the local post office.

The USPS on a whole seems to be sliding into dementia.
This is the latest tracking on a package I have inbound-

Yep, they have done that to me three times as well.  Package gets to the distribution center 20 miles from me, then gets shipped half-way across the country to another distribution center where it sits for a week or so before making its way back to me.
