Post by: WLJ on May 26, 2021, 12:27:12 PM
Short on details so far but what is being reported so far is

"multiple fatalities" and the suspected gunman is now dead"
"At the same time of the shooting, two fires were burning nearby in San Jose, Fox 2 KTVU reported. "

A mother of a VTA employee told KTVU her son called her to say that he was now safe in the auditorium of the sheriff's office. Her son told her that the shooting occurred during a union meeting.
Her son was in the breakroom at the time of the shooting. He said the shooting occurred in the room next to the breakroom.

LOS ANGELES - There have been 10 mass shootings in the past week and at least 10 mass shootings on average every week for the first 18 weeks of 2021, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

A mass shooting is defined by "a minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed, not including any shooter who may also have been killed or injured in the incident," according to the Gun Violence Archive. There were a total of 198 mass shootings across the United States between Jan. 1 and May 11, the data showed.

US averaging 10 mass shootings per week in 2021 so far, Gun Violence Archive says

Funny how we didn't have near as many shootings while Trump was in office...

8 dead + the shooter

Quote
The shooter was a VTA employee, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

Multiple sources identified the suspect as *expletive deleted*it Head, 57, a technician at the rail yard where the shooting occurred.

In addition, KTVU has learned that a fire reported at Cassidy's home on Angmar Court, which broke out about the same time, is linked to the mass shooting, a connection that was confirmed by the mayor.

I wonder if California has the 'red flag' laws but if they do, it sounds as if the gunman had no one close to him that would be in a position to file a petition under red flag.

Of course California has a "red flag" law, and it's pretty broad:

https://www.shouselaw.com/ca/defense/gun-laws/red-flag-law/

Quote
California’s new red flag law allows the following personnel to seek to remove firearms from a dangerous person via a restraining order:

    employers,
    co-workers, and
    teachers.

(this is in addition to family members)

Slight thread drift --

I was reading one of the links from a post in this thread, which then took me to this article: https://www.fox29.com/news/colorado-springs-birthday-party-shooting-police-to-release-victim-names-provide-investigation-updates

And what do you suppose I found in the discussion of mass shootings in Colrado?

Quote
In 2007, a man killed two people and wounded three at Colorado Springs' New Life Church before taking his own life. Earlier the same day, he'd killed two people and injured two at a Youth With a Mission Center in the Denver suburb of Arvada.

I remember reading about that incident. And the shooter did NOT take his own life. That's the church shooting that was stopped by Jeanne Assam, a female ex-police officer who was a volunteer member of the church's security team.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2017/11/when_jeanne_assams_gun_stepped_a_church_massacre.html

Considering how much publicity Ms. Assam received after the incident, I think it's highly unlikely the authors of this new article don't know what really happened at the New Life Church. So what would their motive be for lying about it? My guess is that the do NOT want people to know that good guys (and good gals) with guns are the best way to stop bad guys with guns.

Four of five bullets fired from the gun of a security guard at New Life Church hit Matthew Murray during his deadly shooting spree at the megachurch on Sunday afternoon, according to autopsy results made public Tuesday.

But a bullet Murray fired into his own head is what killed him, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.

Guard Jeanne Assam, 42, fired at Murray inside New Life Church, hitting him twice in his legs and once in his wrist, authorities said. Police spokesman Lt. Skip Arms said Murray also received a superficial wound in the chest, likely from one of Assam’s bullets that deflected off his highpowered assault rifle.

After those wounds took him down, Murray shot himself with one of the two handguns he was carrying, Arms said.

Obviously this guy was on the ledge anyway, but I read this morning that he was due for a disciplinary hearing for "racist remarks" just before he flipped his switch. I have to wonder, it being CA in this day and age, just how true "racist remarks" was? It would be a valid point of discussion if some trumped up "racist" thing was the straw that broke the camel's back, or more precisely, his brain.

If he actually said the N word or something like there, there would be no hearing.  He would have been gone already.

I bet just about everyone here exceeds the 'arsenal' referenced in the article.  Also note that the shooter was not facing a disciplinary hearing, as had been earlier reported.

The cache was in addition to the three 9 mm handguns that Cassidy, 57, brought Wednesday to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose, authorities said. He also had packed a duffle bag with 32 high-capacity magazines and fired 39 shots before killing himself as law enforcement closed in.

First time I' seen what kind of gun(s) he used. Figured if it was an AR or AK type we would have known loud and clear that morning.
They say he brought 32 high caps mags but knowing AP anything beyond a single shot is a high cap.

Apparently the FBI got a tip 5 years ago that the shooter had an "unusual level of interest in terrorist attacks and how to carry them out" and that the DA's office was not notified but as noted in the article it's unclear what the DA would have done with the info.

He had three 9mm handguns and used all three. Also all 32 mags he had were >10rd and thus illegal in CA.

That really says to me that none of these are just normal people who snapped.  They have been on this path for a while.  I think some of the gun controllers would like to make it seem as though he was normal last month and then suddenly something happened.

As the nation marked the fifth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando on Saturday, it has a staggering and grim new statistic to contend with for 2021.

So far this year, we have suffered 272 mass shootings, according to Gun Violence Archive. From Friday afternoon to Sunday, at least nine people were killed and another 47 were injured in eight mass shootings in six states, according to data compiled by CNN and the Gun Violence Archive.
