South Africa could be on the verge of collapse, and all the warning signs are there. The looters have targeted foreign shops, shopping centers, distribution centers/warehouses, and raided gun shops. Shortages are emerging in food, fuel, and ammo.
Over 70 have reportedly been killed since social unrest began last week after ex-president Jacob Zuma was jailed for failing to appear at a corruption inquiry. Supporters of Zuma, the nation's first Zulu president, have been on a looting spree that has crippled KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Johannesburg and disrupted national supply routes, resulting in food and fuel shortages in the affected area.

"unable" is the wrong word. "unwilling" is likely more accurate.
And yes, they would selectively enforce the law. We have seen that here already. Whether the govt leftists there would do the same thing I don't know.

First widely reported accounts of that came after Katrina when guns were stolen from law abiding citizens by the local police with assistance from the National Guard. We didn't see much effort to apprehend or disarm the poor oppressed indigents causing problems by looting and robbing other people.
And, last year of course we saw many examples of people that defended themselves from the poor, oppressed looters and rioters being persecuted by the local authorities.
I suspect we will see more of it in the coming years. Likely with increasingly less than pleasant outcomes.

S. Africa has punitive exit taxes that make it difficult/impossible to take any substantial portion of your net worth with you if you attempt to leave the country.
If you make the understandable decision that your life and that of your family is more important than your savings etc. It's still insanely difficult to find a first world country that will accept immigration, the US included.

Nowhere to flee to. That would be like us giving up and retreating to Europe. Whites spent hundreds of years making SA what it is, they should fight to keep it.

I hunted RSA several decades ago - at that time white South Africans were referring to their "leader" (F. W. de Klerk) as "de Carter" after our POTUS at the time. It was not a term of endearment. General consensus was that the country was going to revert to tribal barbarism in a couple of decades - looks like the predictions are coming to pass.

Well . . . in a country with lots of diamonds, there are ways of exiting with value . . . although I've heard (but haven't been able to verify) that they try to restrict travel abroad by certain important people, e.g., paramedics, doctors, engineers, etc.

The South Africans I've talked with wouldn't agree. I get that a couple of them on social media aren't representative of the whole, but they don't seem like they're inclined to lay down and die.
