Title: Airplane! Free to Watch on YouTube
Post by: Devonai on January 10, 2022, 07:39:48 PM
As of Jan 1st, you can watch Airplane! for free on YouTube, with ads (natch). It's a fun diversion if you want to waste time at work and can't log onto any other streaming services.

If you don't already own a copy, you need to rethink your video library.   =D

Met my wife on a blind date to see Airplane! in 1980. That movie has had a special place in our hearts ever since.

"I speak jive," Barbara Billingsley's last role.

I thought the autopilot belt buckle routine was the funniest thing I had ever seen in a movie.  Post-Hays Code, of course.

I also laughed at the propeller/engine sounds in the long shots.

The "drinking problem" broke me up, too.

Blowing up the autopilot was a hoot!

Drebin, I don't want any more trouble like you had last year on the southside. Understand? That's my policy.

Frank:
Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.

Mayor:
That was a Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar, you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones!

Part that gets me is "You killed 5 actors! Good ones!"
Guess how good of an actor they were makes a difference

The metal detector scene always gets me.  The same scene in Airplane II was nice to watch also.   The "Smoking" ticket is one that I don't know if current generations even understand.

Also the one where the guy says "Striker, I'd watch my step if I were you!", then he goes through the door and you here him fall and lots of crashing noises.   =D

The entire movie is full of gags.  If you get a chance, there was a version of it I watched with pop up messages with commentary on all the jokes and sight gags included in the movie.  There was something in every scene.

Idiocracy is also available free on youtube.  I'd been looking for it for years, and it popped up there a month or two ago.

I was going to guess Robert Stack, but he's been gone for quite a while.

I'm also guessing we should leave that one alone anyhow and maybe it shouldn't have been brought up.

Oh, it's there.  Someone mentioned that one of the actors in Airplane was a member here --Reply #13.   I thought maybe it was Robert StacK.  I guess people didn't know he was a prominent world champion clay buster, so they asked about him --Replies #23 and #24 (yours).

I answered.

Terry, I was referring to Fly320s' avatar.  At one time he had the pilot blowup doll from "Airplane" as his avatar.  Now he has a picture of Peter Graves in his pilot uniform.

Picture? I don't see no stinkin' picture. I used to be able to see the autopilot one.

EDIT: Nevermind - I was thinking of another member's missing avatar. Ben needs more coffee.

That is just nonsense.  You must have him confused with someone else.

You can see his name tag says Roger Murdock.  He's an airline pilot.

Just don't ask about not trying hard enough on defense.  https://youtu.be/ArHNrCvwq4c

There might be more choices except for that unfortunate night over Macho Grande.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JswFF2dKiLM
