Title: Green Metals
Post by: Ben on October 30, 2022, 11:58:35 AM
I saw an interesting term in this MSN article: "Green metals". The implication is that mining certain metals is green and environmentally friendly because they'll result in more electric cars.

They seem to sugar coat the environmental destruction (which I'm not against if it's responsible - I like my modern gadgets as much as the next guy) since it's "for the greater good". Even though they're talking about 500% increases in mining to keep up with implied demand for electric cars and other tech machines. They were mentioning the newly operating Cobalt mines here in Idaho, and mentioned that all that Cobalt has to be shipped to Brazil for processing, and then of course from there to wherever for use.

Reading articles like this, you could make the case that electric cars are way, way worse for the environment than gassers. But "green metals".  ;/

If it is labeled green, it is a lie.  Labels are designed to short circuit thinking. A simple way to encompass a complex thing.
Sometimes that is good. We can't analyze  everything, it takes too much brain space.
But when a new label is introduced, beware, it is probably meant to do an end run around reality.
Mountains of overburden, open leach pits, slave labor?  No. "Green". Oh, OK.

You absolutely nailed it right out of the gate.  This is just new propaganda.  Reject the lie.

There is enough uranium in southwest Virginia to run the country for 400 years. We rejected mining that ten years ago because screw those guys in Africa let’s ruin their countries.
