Title: Today in History - November 22, 1963
Post by: RoadKingLarry on November 22, 2022, 03:09:52 PM
President John F Kennedy assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

I was far too young to remember the event but I have heard my parents and grandparents talking about it.

I kind of wonder how today's current crop of democrats would view him.

I remember exactly where I was. I was in the student commons at college when the news came over a television in the snack bar.

The silence was deafening. Nobody said anything, because nobody knew what to say.

Just a wee kid (6). The family was packing to move from Waco, TX to Lafayette, LA. Remember it on the old console B&W TV.

I was a tech in the psychology lab at Creedmoor State Hospital at my drill press when I heard the ladies in the outer room reacting.  My boss, Dr. Kaplan came in and we told him about it and we sat around listening to the radio, some hoping and praying, and some praying and hoping.

We heard his condition was "moribund" on the way to the hospital and soon after the announcement that he was dead came over the radio.

Dr. Kaplan sent us all home.

I recall seeing a animated drawing of the bullet entering his head on TV and my mom crying - but except for that, it seemed very important .
3 or 4 yrs later watching a documentary with my dad about it, I mentioned I was glad Jack Ruby shot Oswald and my dad explaining that he was being silenced and that a trial would have been very important

in my jaded opinion. her affairs with John/Jack got her killed and Marilyn Monroe is far more interesting to me.
I recall being really disgusted with the jfk admin , the more I learned about it, same with Johnson -

My memories of hearing about it were from first grade.  But, that's the wrong year.  So, a false memory solidified by much re-use.

I remember the funeral.  I was home sick that day.  It was a dreary, cold rainy day, and nothing else was on (all 3 channels!) than that.   Bo!-ring.
