I'm confident that he can act every bit as well as the 2 dimensional screen sprites did in the original game.

Wink

Cool about the movie though.  Didn't know they were making a Doom flick!

Betcha it's a romance, sorta like "The English Patient", only with chainguns.

Actually, I think the Rock is developing into a good action actor.

He has good expressiveness, you can understand what he's saying, and he seems to not take himself too seriously but also doesn't ham it up.

If he can get decent vehicles I think he'll be better than Arnie or Stallone ever were.

I agree carebear.  From what I've seen, his movies have been pretty entertaining.  He does a good job of not trying to be over-the-top serious in a movie that's obviously not going to be taken seriously.  I think that's a big fault that makes a lot of action stars look dumb.  Take Steven Segal for example.  He's become a walking joke, but I don't think he's ever played a character who wasn't super serious.

As a gamer, I hate this movie already.
Let's look at Doom.
Scientists on Mars open a gate to Hell through teleportation technology.  Marines are sent in, all but one dies, the last one (you) stops the invasion of Earth.
In the movie.
Scientists on Earth create a virus that turns people in to zombies, and SWAT teams are mobilized...

*pukes*
Doom 3 is better than this movie will be.

Not to Seagal bash but my big problem with him in particular was his "tag lines".

Those witty rejoinders you're supposed to toss off as you take out the bad guys?

"You're the disease, I'm the cure."

"I come in peace."
"You go in pieces."

"If it bleeds, we can kill it."

Thatsort of thing.

Seagal does a frikkin' soliliquey every damn time.  He couldn't pull off a good one-liner if you dubbed him.  the closest thing he ever had was "I'm the cook", and I'm not sure someone else didn't actually say it.

The Rock has that licked.

Seagal kind of does suck...
But Above the Law was still a good movie.
His movies lately have been garbage, imo.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

Dang, I was looking forward to seeing how they'd make all the hell creatures too.  Zombies ain't nothin'.  That sucks.  Lame.

Granted, a movie with only once character and almost no dialogue might be a little boring, but there's be an awful lot of shooting and blowing stuff up.

I've heard that supposed "plot" for the movie was bogus, for what it's worth.

According to that website:

Quote

Taking much of its inspiration from the PC game Doom 3, the film will take place in a paramilitary research facility on Mars, where things go awry and hell is literally raised. Some theories say that the Rock is actually Satan in disguise, which would tie in to the film and game's devilish setting.

At least Vin Diesel is not in it, speaking of talentless hacks.

Since a new generation of action stars was inevitable, we could all be doing a lot worse than Dwayne Johnson.

This is the plot outline from imdb.com

Quote
When a Special Ops squadron answers a distress call from a science lab on the planet Olduvai, their investigation reveals that a series of mutant beings are systematically killing off the population there...

Not the same as the game seemingly, but definitely not a SWAT team on earth either.

The best thing about this movie?  Future APS posts...

So we've got three different types of stories.
The one I posted is the only one I've been hearing.
The second one sounds a LOT better, and Doomish.
The third one sounds better, but not Doom.

Let's hope for the best. =X

My first "multiplayer" experiance was a Doom II LAN party. Unfortunately, the movie will not contain demons or Mars. I don't see how it could still be called "Doom" but there ya go.

Trivia: In the Doom II strategy guide, they claimed a movie deal was being hammered out with the king of Action himself, Ahnuld.
