i gots a question...
« on: March 03, 2005, 08:43:17 PM »
following a similar train of thought as the tv thread, except with booze.

ever hear people say "I dont drink", yet you KNOW they do? whats with the justification?

my retardo roommate used to say that all the time, even though he'd drink a half rack on friday night, another on saturday, and at least a sixpack on sunday. but since he didnt drink every day, he considered himself a 'nondrinker'.

no, i dont have a problem with people drinking, just admit you are a drinker, ferchisakes!
now see, take me for example. i used to be a hardcore drinker, always had a fridge full of fifths and cases of beer. i was one of those who would down a 12 pack by 7pm. i was drinking a fifth of the hard stuff every night,. yes, by myself, i'd drink a fifth of the captain, or a whole bottle of tequila if i was making margaritas.

nowadays, it takes me a month to make it through an entire sixpack. i dumped out my rum and tequila after they did nothing in my freezer for 2 years. still got a couple bottles of jack or crown, but its been over 2 years since i got my drink on at home.
every now and then i'll go get loaded at the bush co, but thats down to like once every 3 or 4 months.

what about the rest of you? weekend warrior? or continual buzz?

Some people drink to forget. I forget to drink.

But I do drink. Not that much; I'm a cheap date, I guess.

I shared before , I used to drink.  March 27, 1984 I took my last one.

This is my choice - the pain booze was causing was greater than the pain I thought it was killing. I don't have a problem if folks choose to drink.

Are there folks in denial - Yep.

I'm a moody drinker I have to be in the right mood.  I went out Friday and Saturday night and had maybe 6 drinks the entire weekend and was out late both nights.

I have been known to get sideways but its becoming more of a rare occurance.

I drink Bourbon the way American's did in the old days, with dinner several times per week. Kind of like how some people drink wine.

Someone who says they don't drink then imbibes on the weekends = a drinker, especially if it's every weekend. He's lying if it's like he has it penciled in on a calendar. There are social drinkers who consume alcohol at a very low rate per year. There are those who drink beyond the social level due to physical/psychological dependency. There are others who are full blown alcoholics. Then there is a minute number who would down Listerine just for a quick cheap buzz (the worst case of alcoholism). If he doesn't outwardly admit he's a drinker, then he is shameful of himself. He's in denial of his weaknesses.

I tell people I don't drink but I really do. I make it a point to have at least one drink a year.

Moderation is the key, as with most everything. It even says a glass of wine with dinner is ok in the Bible. Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine.

I do.

Like CHL I enjoy a nice bourbon before/with dinner.  If the evening has nothing planned I may enjoy another one or two (depending on how late I'm going to be up) if I'm goofing off online.  I used to really enjoy beer (even brewed it in the basement) however I doubt if I've had more than a 6 pack this year.  Same with gin, now even Bombay Sapphire doesn't taste good to me.  Tastes change over time.  Many nights water or a diet coke will do just fine.

Does the Nanny State consider me a problem drinker?  Probably, I however do not as there have been many times where I'll go a couple of months without touching a drop of anything & not miss it a bit.  Like pretty much everything else in life, taken to an extreme it can be a problem.

The person who says they don't drink and does has a pretty serious denial problem.

I drink, probably 1 or 2 drinks a night.  I don't drink to get drunk, I drink because I like beer and I like Scotch.  Sometimes wine depending on what dinner is going to be.  I find that wine is the best way to wind down a day.

I am a social drinker.  My wife and I will meet friends out or have them over a couple times a month.  It's been a while since I got really ripped though.  I think someone already said it--moderation is prudent.

I used to drink a lot.  I don't anymore, haven't had a drink in 2 years.

I decided it wasn't worth what I was doing to my body.  Hey, once I quit drinking a half rack a night, I lost a whole bunch of weight!!

I like beer.  I try to enjoy it a couple of nights a week (usually friday & saturday).  It's been a long time (many years) since I got sloshed, or really even had more than a six-pack.  I quit drinking hard stuff when I completed my schooling and I only drink wine when it's the only thing being served.

It is funny how some people say they don't drink, but go to happy hour a couple of times a week and down the cheap 'ritas like they're water.  When I was in high school, every one I knew (except one Mormon girl) drank.  When I was in college (the most populated single campus in the country at the time), every student I knew drank, a lot, and I knew a lot of students.  Where do the people who claim to have never had a drink come from?

I hate it when a dcotor asks me if I drink.  How do you explain that you have a very occaisional one?  It's like a yes/no question when they ask it.

I drink most weeks, usually two to four pints on Friday or Saturday night.   Although Ive been known to enjoy everything from margaritas to straight bourbon.
I dont know why some folks falsely report on their drinking, but I see it all the time.   Maybe theyre in denial.   Maybe they are so concerned with their image that they would rather risk being known as a liar than as a drinker.

Being the latter, I'm not sure if there are two professions more lied to.  If you've got to pick one, make it your doctor, but don't be stupid about it.

Some doctors don't care unless you are drunk when you go see them.  Most doctors drink as  much as everyone else.  I have known several that advocated a few drinks a day as healthful.  There are a few that do not drink, have been taught that everything about it is bad and don't think you should do it either.  If your doctor is this last guy, telling him you have a few drinks a day is good way to have "heavy drinker" put in your medical records, which will be used against you in court on a later date, when you least expect it, by some insurance company lawyers who will do everything they can to tear you down in the eyes of a jury to avoid the company's obligation to pay you.

There's nothing wrong with telling the truth, but you have to be very careful about how you do it.

whoooo boy, learn the hard way that taking shots of jack followed by jack/coke chasers is not in my best interests!

i'm still pretty sure it wasnt my vomit. if it was, that'd be the first time i've never had that horrible aftertaste. what i would like to know is what happened between the time i blacked out until the time i got home. missing a couple hours there. maybe i was abducted by aliens and they puked on me?

"Vodka straight up, nothing in it, just right to the point. I don't even know what a lot of these fancy drinks are."  --Bridget Moynahan, on her preferred drink.  (she was the main actress in Sum of All Fears and The Recruit)

Vodka and tequila are okay.  Gin is marginal.  I'll take scotch or good red wine if someone else pays for it.  I can't stand Goldschlager (and probably other drinks like it, though I haven't tried any).  Most everything else is just blah.  Despite preferring hard liquor, I don't drink very much.  If I told the truth the doctor would probably think I was lying, but it's never been brought up.

Couple, two, tree glasses of wine on Friday night at dinner with friends.
Maybe two Rob Roys if I don't drink the wine.

During the week maybe on Wednesday, I'll sip on some wine, maybe a couple glasses.  I like a little bourbon, scotch or cognac on occasion.

That's about it.  Pretty boring, me.

I LOVE beer.  I could go to the bar right now and down six pints of Spaten Oktoberfest.  Unfortunately, I would have to take up robbing liquor stores to support my love of beer, so I limit myself to about one liquid tour of Germany a year.  Someday, when I'm wealthy beyond belief, I might up that to a pint a day.

I tend toward binge drinking.

If I'm doing anything at all I will drink moderately but if my hands aren't busy and booze is put in front of me I will drink it until it is gone, generous friends or an attentive bartender will have me in trouble quickly.

Which was ok when I was young and strong, now it kills me for a couple days.  I try to have something distracting when I drink now.
