Jim Webb (D-VA) as Obama's Veep?
« on: May 30, 2008, 06:38:15 AM »
Hmmm.  Would this be weird or what?

I ain't voting for Obama.

I ain't voting for Hillary.

I'll likely hold my nose and vote for McCain.

But if Obama runs with Webb ... somebody who at least on paper somewhat pro-gun ... could there be hope for us gun owners?

Ah, who am I kidding.  What does the veep do anyways.

Webb would be an interesting choice if it put VA into play.

Whether Webb would want anything to do with Obama is another story. Webb seems like a pretty straight shooter (pun sort of intended), separate from his pro-gun leanings. I can't imagine he would want to be tarnished by associating with the likes of Obama.

My impression is that Webb is more "conservative" than McCain.

I might have even voted for Webb as a presidential candidate.

Until 2006 I thought of Webb that way.  It really blew my mind to learn that he was running for Senate as an anti-war Dem, having read several of his books (Fields of Fire, A Matter of Honor, others).  From his writings he came across as an old school hardcore conservative, I wasn't sure of what to make of his current political stands.  In fact I remember reading stuff about him when he was Reagan's Secretary of the Navy in the 80s and I thought he was a hawkish conservative.  What is Webb these days?
