I was tooling around in the profile options and saw the Avatar option, however, it wouldn't let me upload mine.  Anyone know what gives?

I guess it's either buggy...or disabled.

disabled is my guess.  Probably a good thing for the bandwidth too.

I hope we can stay with the high-speed/low-drag approach.  At least something in my life deserves to be HS/LD! Smiley

Other avatars can be disabled in your options, apparently.
I'm used to identifying people by their avatars, rather than reading their names.
Also, what's with the new forum layout? =/

Sunday it felt a little better, but it was quite irritated from me rubbing it.

I like it without avatars; I'm on dialup.

phpBB couldn't handle the load so Oleg had to switch to punBB.  Different look and feel but faster IMO.

Oh, no avatars please.  Thanks.

I like having an avatar. But I have a cable connection.

I am on dialup, and like avatars. I have never really noticed a slow down on forums using avatars, vs forums that don't.

Static avatars are not too bad on dial-up, so long as the size is limited.  Its the animated .gif files that suck up bandwidth.

Having one here would be nice, but not really needed.
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

People on dialup can simply deactivate the display of other people's avatars in their profile settings if it slows them down too much.

With that said I don't think avatars would fit in with the THR derived culture of this board.

Avatars are fun.  Obviously its just like bad postings, or posting porn or spam: if you post dirty avatars you should get the boot.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this forum will be moving to a vBulletin format soon, so it will behave just like THR, which would be great.

vBulletin would be great for this forum. I think vBulletin is the best forum software you can get.

No avatars because I don't want them cluttering up the forum. The current technical solution may be a temporary one anyway.
