In Soviet Russia, dollar dumps you!

Can I panic yet or is this basically not that big of a deal? I don't want to miss the chance to squanter my money on weapons and food before the hyperflation kicks in.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Pfft, last time I was in Moscow, I still got 30 something rubles per dollar.

The only other currency I saw was the euro, not the commu-chino currency.

Ordinary Russians have been dumping the dollar for about two years, preferring the Euro.

If society collapses, will I still have to repay my student loans?

Maybe not.

They still have to prove they made the loan to you.  If the documents have been converted to use for other matters, like most paper will, it may be difficult to do.

You guys who are stockpiling ammo are going to be trading it for TP come TEOTWAWKI.  You can only go so far with leaves & corncobs for so long.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

Yes.

I believe I elaborated on that before.

I saw a lot of old people with Euros at the banks when I was in Russia in january, but other than that, the dollar was still more common.

Ever see products marked in U.E. [Uslovnie Ednitsy] at the stores?

My Russian is rusty enough to be close to non-existent but is that supposed to be:

Условныи Едниицы?

Условные Единицы.

Under Russian law, stores are prohibited from stating prices in foreign currency. So, what storekeepers did was denominate these prices in UE - Conventional Units - which was widely read to mean dollars.  After the dollar began declining recently, news reports from Russia state that many sellers tie their prices to the Euro instead.

Nope, I can't say that I did.

I remember seeing something weird along those lines in Saratov, in the markets, but I doubt it was aimed at US people (we're a rare thing that far down. :))
