I never knew Kahn was a nemesis in the series.

If you watch ST2, when Chekov enters the cargo pods Khan's people were using as shelters, you will note a copy of Moby Dick on a bookshelf.
In the original SPACE SEED episode, Milton was quoted .... though Scotty didn't get the reference.

All my life I've been alone. Many times I've faced death with no one to know. I would look into the huts and the tents of others in the coldest dark and I would see figures holding each other in the night. But I always passed by.
