I wonder what was going through Custer's mind when he realized that he'd led his men into a slaughter?

"Say boy, I wanna know about old Ben Griswald. I hear the injuns downed 'im."

"Only it wasn't injuns downed 'im. It was renegade whites done it."

"How come?"

"He'd been wolfin' all Winter. Musta had two-three thousand dollars of wolf pelts. He was hacked up and stuck full of arrows. Looked like injun work alright, but the wolf pelts was gone. If ever I find them hellhounds, I'll sure make 'em hunt their holes."

With a horse you get other advantages.
Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

That famous day in history the men of the 7th Cavalry went riding on.
And from the rear a voice was heard,
A brave young man with a trembling word rang loud and clear...
"What am I doin' here?!?!?"

There, fixed it.
"My limited experience does not permit me to appreciate the unquestionable wisdom of your decision"

Please Mr Custer, I don't wanna go...
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

"The only thing Loretta ever told a cop was where to go, and what to do."

Back in 1958, I guess it was OK for an old woman to save both herself and Peter Gunn, by shooting two men with a revolver, and not feel terrible about it afterward. In fact, no one took the gun away from her, as they probably would today. Perhaps they were too smart to try.

When I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey; and when I drink water, I drink water.

I think your in-laws are commin' to pay you visit, Squire darlin'.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

"Are you the police?"
"No, ma'am. We're musicians."
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

"Most people think Marv is crazy. He just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century. He'd be right at home on some ancient battlefield swinging an axe into somebody's face. Or in a Roman arena, taking his sword to other gladiators like him. They would've tossed him girls like Nancy back then."
