I did some reading a while back, into the Norse legend of Fimbulwinter.  There's some suspicion that it comes from a climate transition that happened in the 6 or 7 hundreds BC (about the time of the Israelite deportation to Babylon).  Prior to that time the climate in northern Europe was warm enough that they were growing grapes in Sweden.

Always a good recommendation.
I think I've mentioned this on this board before. I know I'm lecturing people in real life often enough about it. I fear that it goes in through one ear and straight out of the other though.

I rescind my earlier comment, due to concerns that it may qualify as a call to religious tolerance. I'm not allowed to do that anymore.

But how is she going to watch Honey Boo-Boo with no TV?

I wouldn't watch that crap if it were the only form of "entertainment" left on the planet.

As always with this subject, I'm bemused at the comments that are deemed relevant. Serious lack of critical thought.

But it's a rabbithole I'm pretty bored of now.

As always with this subject, the religous zealots refuse to accept that their prophets have lied to them. Serious lack of self reflection and looking at the objective evidence.

But I'm pretty bored of pointing out their unscientific beliefs now.

I'll give you a 5/10, but I'm not biting today.

Watching an alt-med loon try and take down a CF forum is far more interesting. Similar vein really, the notion that the medical establishment is lying to us... so I did nibble.

Oh teh nose, you've compared me to a group of crazy people! Why, that must totally invalidate my argument!  ;/

I suppose as the data grows that demonstrates how wrong your side is, it's inevitable that you'd go from trying to argue on the merits and instead resort to silly name calling. Kind of pathetic, really.

The thing I always found interesting is that in the "Climate models" that predict that we're all going to get roasted (after we drown in hurricanes and typhoons and freeze to death in massive blizzards) is that none of them modeled water vapor.

Why is that?

Look Iain, until you recognise that there's a global conspiracy of thousands of scientists all motivated by Marxism, you cannot have any hope of understanding climate science.

They are making it up to take away America's wealth.  Starting with Lord Kelvin - I mean really, he starts talking about CO2 and climate change exactly how long before Marxism ravages unsuspecting workers in Europe, leaving them in conditions far, far worse than they'd ever had?
"Human existence being an hallucination containing in itself the secondary hallucinations of day and night (the latter an insanitary condition of the atmosphere due to accretions of black air) it ill becomes any man of sense to be concerned at the illusory approach of the supreme hallucination known as death."

Wow, baldly misrepresenting your opponents views, and putting in a plug for the beauty and joy of Marxism. That's trolling gold right there.

I think both sides agree that the climate of earth has and will continue to change.   There is more than ample proof of that.

Where we disagree is to

1)  Whether man is "causing" (or even has any effect) on it.

2)  What (if anything) can and/or should be done about it.

3)  Whether if it does "change" that it will be "bad" or worse than now.  In fact, there's a good chance, based on the historical record, it could actually be "better".

Because,

4)  We don't even know what "normal" climate is for earth.  (The planets been around for 4 billion +/- years and we have 100-110 years of weather data.)

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

In fact, "normal" may well be centuries-long swings such as that graph showing the Medieval Warming Period, on a recurring basis. We're still not back to farming in Greenland and making domestic wines in Norway, so perhaps the climate we have today is what's abnormal, and we're just heading back toward normalcy.

Hey Ian!

Long time no see!

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.
