Interesting seeing gun lobbying dollars over time
« on: April 24, 2013, 03:32:09 AM »
I was curious how the various industries lobby efforts ranked, and how the pro and anti gun groups stacked up against each other.

Using this link http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/indusclient.php?id=Q12&year=2012 for gun control groups.

And this link http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/indusclient.php?id=Q13&year=2012 for gun rights groups.

I see that the anti gun effort peaked at just over $2 million in 2001 and died after 2004, only mustering $250K a year after that.

The gun rights side peaked at over $6 million in 2000, and had a low of $3 million in 2006.

I am surprised to see that GOA beat the NRA in lobbying until recently. I guess it makes sense that the NRA is now on top given the GOA's president losing member's support, and the NRA becoming pro gun, not just pro hunting gun, in recent years. The GOA's best year, 2000 was the NRA's worst.

NSSF gets an honorable mention, having grown to 800K in lobbying dollars in 2012, up from 320K in 2011.
