That's not much of a strategic reserve...

It's a freaking bloodbath all across the financial markets today...

West Texas crude is down over 7%, heating oil is down over 5%.

Early last year when it became evident that there was going to be a long-term down trend in oil prices, I NEVER though we'd hit this point. I thought we'd level off in the $45-$50 range.

That was my first "WTH?" thought. Until I clicked on your link and saw it's the total in millions of barrels. :)

It looks like the current infrastructure capacity is 714 million barrels, so we're nearly topped out right now. I haven't found charts on historical averages yet.

Gasoline futures are now at 101 cents and a few hundredths. It's conceivable that it will drop below $1 a gallon today or tomorrow.

Heating oil futures?

Well, they're at 85 cents and a few hundredths a gallon, and they're also continuing to fall.

I am saving so much money this year with Mom's home heating bills...

The BP I pass every day was down to $1.79.  $1.59 for the Car wash.

I'll be filling up tonight on the way home...

Went back and looked over this thread.  The price of gas here (BP in Glen Ellyn) has dropped $.16 in 6 days.  I've never seen it drop that much, that fast.

Paid $1.73 at my usual station today on the way home from work.

If things keep going the way they are, I'll probably have oodles of time.

"Come work for us, we'll meet your salary demand, good benefits, 401K, plenty of vacation, etc"

My commute is a whopping 5 minutes from the new house I bought last June.

And of course, it was all on the Bakken Shale boom, which was supposed to be "temporarily" deflated by the Saudis.

Thank goodness my military pension will cover the mortgage while I look for another McJob...

Meanwhile in CA...regular gas in my area is $2.43-$2.75. Gas under $2 a gallon is only a myth out here.  =(

And it looks like the bottom is falling out of the market.  Gas around here is down to $1.48- $1.52.  Over the border in Indiana it's $1.42.    There used to be a $.30-$.60 a gallon difference between the two states...

Oil was at $33/barrel and falling according to the news on the ride in this morning.

Doing some cyphering, if they could get 55gallons of gas from a barrel of oil, that's a cost of $.60/gal, figure refining, transport and taxes and "BIG OIL !!!" is making jack squat these days...

Down to $1.68 at a couple of the stations the wife and I use.  The closest Exxon dropped two cents last night, and that usually leads our favorite stations dropping a cent or three by a couple of days.

$1.69 at Kroger, but I used $0.50 of fuel points so it was $1.19.

Today it is at $1.43 or so.  Guy here at work used his discount points card the other day and got it at 58 cents.
