It jumped 16 cents to $1.99 here today.  It happened during the time I had been called in to work on my vacation no less.  Drove into work today and it was at $1.83.  It was at $1.99 when I finally got smart and headed home to recover at least an hour of my vacation day.

Up to $1.74 or so.

Jumped another dime to $2.09 today.  That's 26 cents in two days.  Oh, joy.

Oil and gasoline futures have been on a frigging rocket the last week or so. Lots of freaking investor chimps who have taken a pummeling in the futures markets the last year or so just hoping beyond hope that oil producers are going to start setting production limits at the meeting coming up Sunday.

But none of them are taking into account Iran, which has categorically stated that they're going to do everything they can to pump their wells to capacity, and if anyone else surrenders market share by adopting quotas, they're going to grab it.

Production ceiling talks in Dhoa collapsed this afternoon after Saudi Arabia refused to agree to any deal that didn't include Iran.

Iran wasn't at the meeting, and has categorically stated they intend to pump as much crude as they can to capture market share after sanctions were lifted earlier this year.

This could get really sporty in the futures markets over the next couple of days...

Saw the news on Doha earlier.  I wonder if current Nigerian and Kuwaiti output problems will temper any price drop on Monday?  Granted the actual drop in production is probably minimal in total market terms, but speculators are easily spooked.

Oil is down a buck and a quarter in early trading post Doha.

Also saw an empty BNSF oil tanker train headed west bound....

I don't understand this at all.

There's not even a hint of an oil output deal being finalized after it collapsed yesterday, there's no strong indications that oil usage is going to go up any time soon, and Iran is planning on pumping as much as they can, and the monkey brained aholes who do futures trading are trying their damndest to erase the losses in overnight trading.

There's simply no fundamental support for it. Oil should have continued its drop, and yet it's stabilizing.

Oh hell, there's an oil workers strike in Kuwait.

That's what's providing the support today.

Damnit.

Damnit.

Today being the operative word.   Everyone is still pumping as much as they can as fast as they can for cashflow reasons.

And some issues in Nigeria and Canada that are dropping their respective outputs for a while.  I think all are contributing.
Kuwait's output is supposedly down by a third or more.  I say "supposedly" because their oil folks are claiming otherwise.  The accuracy of the information is questionable.

Oil has climbed up to $44 a barrel.  We'll see how the Saudi respond to USA industry re-start.

In the last two weeks it's gone from ~$1.87 to $2.07.
