So if I go fill my tank up they owe me money right?   =D

Good luck on that...the .gov still wants its pound of fleshlight.

Last Friday I had to go back home.

Gas prices in Mathews and through on to Saluda, Virginia, were in the $1.59-$1.65 range.

I tanked up in Tapahannock, Virginia, for $1.47.

In Fredericksburg, VA, right next to I-95, the price was hovering around $1.59.

In Fairfax at the Citgo near my house it was about $1.85.

Last weekend low-test was $1.48 at 3 stations I drive by daily.  Today they were all at $1.49.

WTI just hit 21 CENTS a barrel.

Complete and total market collapse.

Brent is still around $26 a barrel...

This is an expiring contract. It could jump back up with the new contract cycle.

Rush Limbaugh was discussing this on his April 20th show.  In the immediate future, oil has plummeted .... but if you go farther out into the future they recover.  It's believed that demand will rise again with recovery,  which isn't unreasonable.

But things sure hurt now.   J. R.  Ewing must be more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs... [popcorn]

Great news if it happens. When I recently complained about it (again), I learned Trump doesn't have carte blanche to just do it. So hopefully congress cooperates on this. I mean, it's a win for the fiscal hawks, and even a win to the AOCs that want to stick it to the oil companies.

Does he really need permission from congress if the oil is free?  (or the receiver is paid to take it)

Appropriations bills need to start in the House, but if the amount is $0 I'd think he could do that out of petty cash.  Certainly he has a small descretionary budget.  Or he could solicit a donation from someone stuck with May oil contracts and no place to put it.

I'm guessing the amount won't be $0. My understanding is negative prices factor in having to build additional storage plus transport costs. The SOR would handle the storage part, but I'm betting the gov will pay transport costs. Which seems reasonable to me.

Since this is the Federal government, the cost of $0/bbl oil will probably be $100/bbl or more.

Is there actual storage facilities for the strategic reserves, or do they just buy oil to be left in the ground? I heard about salt domes in LA being used for storage, but it could just be hearsay.

See the wiki.  The oil is stored in underground salt caverns mostly in Louisiana and Texas.

I got .50 off a gallon at Kwik Star/Trip, that will make for a cheap fill up, now if I can use up my tank before the .50 expire.

.50 off?  Where'd you get that, from buying all those packs of bacon last month?  (I'm serious)  I have not seen any good discounts, but I was out of the state for over a month so may have missed the flyer.

Filled up for $1.25 today just North of Tulsa.

Thanks.  I didn't miss much then.  Their pizza is okay but not that great and a bit overpriced, and my tank only holds 12 gallons.  Not worth it to save at most $6. :)  A good deal if you really like their pizza.  Or have a 30 gallon tank.
