I think there needs be a law that commodity traders have to have the facilities for full possession of the entire product to be able to trade.

I agree completely.  If you can't take full possession of the commodity, you can't trade in the commodity.

Of the three gas station close by the house, two raised their prices .10 for the holiday to $2.59.  The third station left theirs at $2.45.  Of course, they got most of the business over the weekend.  Those two stations that raised their prices have yet to drop them back to pre-holiday levels as of Wednesday.  I'm starting to think they may have been a regular price increase having nothing to do with the holiday weekend.  If the third station raises their prices in a few days we'll know for sure.

Yep, the third gas station raised their prices today 12 cents to $2.57.  They always hover 2¢ or so under the other two stations.

WTI was down a $1.69 during the day, but has recovered .32 in after hours electronic trading as of this writing.  The Iraq announcement will wear off in a day or three and oil will recover to the $60.50-61.50 range where it's been hovering lately (in my non-expert opinion).

Almost there.  WTI closed at $60.30 today, up $2.62.

Might be some SERIOUS spikes in gas prices over the next week or so.

WTI and Brent were both up in excess of 4%.

Gasoline futures were up over 5%, and heating oil futures were up over 4.5%

All for a US draw down of 2.8 million barrels of crude over the last week...

Still leaving inventories in the record breaking territory. *expletive deleted*ing traders are such bitches.

So much for the law of supply and demand.

Actually it is supply and demand.  They are trying to forecast both in the futures martkets.  A lot of factors go into that, various wars, current and projected production levels, projected demand (like summer driving season and how the low prices may affect that), along with a large variety of other factors.

So if commodity traders have to have the ability to "possess" the commodity, then travel websites have own airlines and hotels?  NVOCC's need to own ships and airplanes?  What about retailers that don't maintain any inventory, but drop ship instead?  Should they be allowed to do it?

Yeah, Pennsylvania spiked their gas tax a few years ago. Last week I drove up to my Mom's, and in Lewistown the price for regular is $2.89. A few miles down the road, near Harrisburg, it's $2.75.

Ideally, yes they are. In practice they are trying to corner the market.  Think Hunt brothers and silver.  That's why the rules were changed in that market years ago requiring possession.

So if commodity traders have to have the ability to "possess" the commodity, then travel websites have own airlines and hotels?  NVOCC's need to own ships and airplanes?  What about retailers that don't maintain any inventory, but drop ship instead?  Should they be allowed to do it?

Uh, no.  Not even close to the same thing.  A fruit salad comparison.

I paid $2.55 in Wisconsin last Thursday, $2.64 in Gary (also Thursday), and $2.32 in Indy on Sunday.

All prices are before BP/Pilot discount card reductions and the $.05 credit I get on from my credit card.

$3.29 for 91 Octane, did get a discount of $1.45 a gallon from the fuel saver at the grocery store. So 17 gallons was right at $30.

We're still in the high 2.60s to almost $3.00, depending on the station and area, here in Northern Virginia, which is pissing me off to no end.

Gas has been $2.42 at Costco and $2.65 everywhere else for a couple of weeks.  Costco jumped to $2.55 today but nobody else has raised their prices yet.

It's been dropping for a few weeks, though I wonder how long that will continue.  Paid $2.41 Saturday at the Hess/Wilco down the street.

As we come to the end of the driving season I suspect gasoline will continue to drop in price.

Right now wholesale futures are down almost 4 cents a gallon.

$2.55 I think here in the Tulsa area.  Read where they predict below $2 after the summer.

It's ranging from $3.259 to $3.599. The price went up 13¢ right after the news said prices should go down.  =|

I can too if I go to the air base, or drive an hour or so to Missouri.
