Ashley Madison hack gets better and better
« on: August 21, 2015, 08:39:53 AM »
So thousands of dolts used their .gov and .mil accounts to access the cheaters site.  Now we know some are even linked to the WH.

Fuggedabout the White House.  I want to know who at State used the service.

Oh, yeah.  Silly me.  She used a private server.

I used to get email from them at one of my Gmail accounts.  Some guy in Sydney, Australia with the same name as me signed up.  The emails he used to get were hilarious, and my wife and I were rolling around on the floor.  He was in his mid-20's and was looking for some sort of cougar arrangement.

Apparently the service intentionally did not screen email addresses. Thus it should be taken with a significant grain of salt.

The unreleased credit card info would be a different story.

Definitely for the ones like bo@whitehouse.gov and the like.  But random schlub nobody has ever heard of with a high level security clearance and a .mil address..  probably legit.

I just don't see any reason for people to fake regular run of the mill .gov and .mil accounts for the site, though.  I'd have serious doubts that a high ranking politician or member of the military would be legit.  City, state, federal employees and members of the military, though.....I have no doubt the majority of those are authentic.

Oh, and Josh Duggar admitted he used the site.  Which lends legitimacy to the released addresses not being faked.

It's actually quite interesting. No one can be individually proven to have used the service, but some very high percentage are likely the actual users.

So, you can't exactly fire someone or use it in a divorce proceeding (or shouldn't, anyways), but the balance of probability...

I remember hearing that a large percentage of the users/members of that site were fake so I am curious on the percentages.

Well there's an accusation that the female users/members of the site are fakes, and that employees were paid to create profiles to lure men in.

government employees with secret clearances using their .gov addresses to access a site for cheating on their spouses should concern you.  This makes them vulnerable for espionage.

fair enough. It does, and I could have elaborated in the wake of an offhand compliment. However, in the context of: the OPM hack; HRC's toilet server; IRS targeting/obfuscation & stonewalling; Snowden; Brad/lea Manning-WikiLeaks; EPA private e-mail; et al., etc., ad nauseam, this is one drain hole in a very (regrettably) efficient colander.

I recall hearing similar issues about Match, eHarmony and the like, and that a certain percentage of 'real' female profiles were from escorts looking for business.

Credit card info has been released, it just isn't in a searchable website yet like the emails are.

It's actually quite interesting. No one can be individually proven to have used the service, but some very high percentage are likely the actual users.

So, you can't exactly fire someone or use it in a divorce proceeding (or shouldn't, anyways), but the balance of probability...

Credit card info as well as geolocation info are included, and I believe details of how active the account was. So it'll be more definitive for the folks who actually did use it.

Gee, y'think?  I got a free 3 months on one of the regular singles sites and used it to explore how many actual women vs obvious fakes were on there.  90% of the respondents during live chat couldn't correctly identify the weather where they claimed to be.  (And that's allowing for a huge margin in how one describes weather, too, but unless you're full blood Inuit, 40F and pouring rain ain't a beautiful day for a walk on the beach.

I am somewhat curious, though, how hard my ex wife is squinting to try and find my name in the released list.
