A random speculative thought that amused me....
« on: November 26, 2016, 06:45:35 PM »
I can't wait to see what the staff reactions are when Trump's and Pence's official portraits start to appear in all federal offices.

Will the diehards magic-marker moustaches on them?

Will they refuse to take down Obama's picture?

Will they put up pictures of Hillary alongside?

Will the hysterical whining over "their" loss have died down by then?

Should be around March, if I recall correctly when Obama's and Biden's official portraits were first hung.

I'm pleased as punch to see Trump has pegged Wilbur Ross as Commerce Secretary. I know some people there that will pull the "move to Canada" routine. I can't wait to see which "AGW denier" he chooses for Undersecretary for Oceans and Atmosphere.

He ran track and was captain of the rifle team.

Yay!

But his wife is named Hilary with one ell.

Forgivable, I s'pose.

On the third hand, anyone who owns 25 paintings by René Magritte has to have a sense of humor.

Well, while "art" is difficult to define unless you have preconceived notions about it, some of Dali's art, which is not dissimilar, is going for over five mil and hang in some big deal museums.

"Investment" is a lot easier to define, ha-ha.

According to my memory, the most expensive painting in the world was Jackson Pollock's "Number Five."

I have no trouble having a sense of humor over that one.  Its intrinsic worth is the cost of the fiberboard it was painted on, the paint, and Pollock's time to scatter all that paint around... at minimum wage, of course.

Back to my own topic,  I would really, really get my jollies off if Mr. Trump chose this as his Official Presidential Portrait to hang in all federal offices:

It would represent all the deplorable baseball-cap ignoramuses in red states who take showers after work and got him elected.  >:D

Well, Terry, I was attempting to lampoon the snobbery that looks down on art that looks like art, and poetry that sounds like poetry, etc. Make the arts great again!

Very good, fistful.

jamisjockey, I used to give a small raspberry at the two portraits every time I walked by them.

^  Nah.  They had cameras going, which encompassed the portraits.
