Douglas Rain, the actor who lent his voice to HAL, the murderous computer on the spaceship "Discovery" in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey", has died.
Originally picked to narrate the movie, Stanley Kubrick instead had Rain give voice to the iconic HAL.

There is another story here on how Hal kind of set the tone for creepy AI voices used with Siri and Amazon Echo units.  Sorry that it's behind a paywall.
