100th Anniversary of Armistice Day
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:07:45 AM »
Has anyone heard any mention of this? The Great War ended 100 years ago, yesterday. I didn't even think about it, until half-way through the day.

11th November is also the anniversary of the Mayflower Compact, with the 400th anniversary coming up in 2020.

Yes.  I talked to my daughters about it just before 11am, although I cheated and used our local time zone.

Sadly, I usually attend some ceremony somewhere, but my heart just wasn't into it this year.  Changing my profile pic and liking all those I served with profile pics was about the extent of my participation.

And I did post Kenneth Brannaugh's St Crispin's Day speech from Henry V.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
