Colin Powell Dead of Covid Complications
« on: October 18, 2021, 08:14:35 AM »
Story on Fox at the link.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/colin-powell-dead-covid-19-former-secretary-of-state

Note in the story that he was fully vaccinated.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

It turns out that the General was fighting multiple myeloma and was immunosuppressed, thus decreasing the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Some people have zero class.

Ana Navarro wastes zero time using Gen. Colin Powell’s death to stick it to Donald Trump, MAGA, and the GOP

84 years old with cancer- vaccine or no vaccine, this is already 8 years or so OLDER than the average age of death for males.

This is the sort of thing that just confuses the issue- he was an old man, very ill, and anything could have finished him off.
To make generalizing statements about the vaccine, or covid around this sort of event is just foolish. We saw similar when the covid ripped through nursing homes earlier, when it killed a lot of residents. but as old and sick as many were, anything could have got them- bad flu, a cold, etc.

Any sort of discussion on this, in order to make any sense at all, needs to focus on thosewho are not seriously compromised to start with.

Maybe we can reserve the ugly political reactions by Navarro, et al, for a different thread.

I think Colin Powell was the sort of person you could sit down with and have a conversation where you could disagree but still remain civil. Not many left like that.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

I agree with that, and also that the number of people you can do that with is being rapidly depleted. I didn't agree with all his positions, but he seemed like the kind of guy you could politely disagree with, and who would logically discuss his beliefs. RIP.

I read somewhere there was a difference between dying with Covid 19 and dying from Covid 19, and that the medical industry was puffing up the numbers by deliberately confusing the two.

Sounded paranoid-ish to me, but now this case makes me wonder.  Not to politicize his passing, but that occurred to me again with this event.

Anyhow, rest in peace, General, with our thanks.

Of 600 deaths in St. Louis City, 354 were over age 70. 480 over age 60.

I have yet to run down how many were terminally ill.

Taken out by a WMD of all things.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

When I was stationed as a crewman on C2s from 89-92 we took a contingent of military Chief of Staff equivalent officers out to one of the carriers for a day of fun and games. Gen Powell was also in the group, he was the host for the excursion. We chatted a bit before flight briefing for all of the people. He was a good listener as I told him what we would be doing that day. He thanked me, and then sat in the briefing appearing to pay attention with the rest of the group. I was given a sweet Swiss Army Knife by the Swiss guy. It had aluminum scales and wasn't overly gadgeted up. I think my ex ended up with it, along with some other mementos of my military career. Anyhow, at the time he was CJCOS yet still connected with the troops from what I saw.
