It will be just the fourth time in history that an outgoing president has skipped the swearing-in ceremony of his successor. John Adams in 1801, John Quincy Adams in 1829 and Andrew Johnson in 1869 all refused to attend their successors' inaugurations, according to CNN.

"Warning shots should have been fired and lethal force should have been used," the South Carolina Republican and close ally of Trump's said, adding that backpacks the protesters were carrying could have contained bombs. "If this is not a wake-up call, I don't know what is."

So we want cops to use lethal force on anyone carrying a backpack because it might have a bomb in it?

Now say that statement again, but reference antifa and BLM.

I think one of the more disgusting things to me is the "conservative" legislators that are screaming outrage louder than the left. I expect crap like this from Pelosi. Sounds to me like a lot of these conservatives suddenly jumping on the "domestic terrorists" bandwagon are doing so not just for political optics, but because somebody came to their place of business for a change instead burning down some regular Joe's store.

That's a good point. I think it's also very much because politicians have to be able to sense the way the wind blows. Dissent from the prevailing groupthink is going to be damaging to their career.

Here is my take. They want to make Trump such a pariah that not only will he be unable to every think about running for President again but anyone remotely connected will be tainted. This is also a warning to others, don't come into our house and attempt to change the status quo we have taken decades to establish. We will get you in the end, if not sooner!

Possibly unpopular opinion:
Laying low and insulating yourself from a system that's becoming increasing tumultuous works for the early stages of the collapse.  However, inevitably it will reorganize, and the reorganizers will need a scapegoat to blame the problems on and shift public anger away from themselves.  For instance, look to the early stages of the USSR.  Dropping out works for now, but consider in time, you may need to expatriate to avoid becoming a casualty of political violence.  =(  Plan accordingly.

Book: "You got a plan?"

Mal: "Hiding ain't a plan?"

Book: "It'll do you for a spell."

Nick makes some good points, but becoming an expatriate isn't any sort of solution.

At the risk of sounding jingoistic, the United States is the last bastion of liberty in the world.  If it falls to socialism/authoritarianism/totalitarianism, if the light of liberty is extinguished here, then it is extinguished everywhere.  If it comes to that, we have to stand and fight.  This is our country, not theirs.

That's because it was a group of right wing idiots, with the same outlook on political rallies as left wing idiots.  They are social events, to be crowed about on social media, to meet up with fellow activists and have a good time and reaffirm one anothers' political views.

None of those people there had a tangible action plan to create the change they wanted if they happened to actually seize the House Floor.  Much like the BLM activists had no tangible action plan to create the change they wanted if they happened to seize a police station or court building.

On a serious note, how likely does anyone think it is that we'll see any of the following State level actions in the next four years?:
-Mandatory paper ballots
-Mandatory release of source code for electronic voting systems
-Creation of distributed block chain voting systems
-Elimination or reduction of mail in ballots
-Creation of felony crimes and assignment of specific responsibilities of elections staff at precincts to enforce auditability of elections
-Nullification of a precinct's entire vote tally if vote tampering is demonstrated
-Nullification of a precinct's entire vote tally if the precinct political party leaders don't sign off on the count process
-Legislative audit and destruction of vote processes put in place by unauthorized parties, such as Secretaries of States or Governors

Also, here's a photo of the overall rally. What percentage of these people were "violent insurrectionists"? If you want to talk about "mostly peaceful", here's an example:

So about 50 to 75 people?

I will take bets on the opposite of all of those. I just heard this morning that Pelosi is seriously considering the "16 years old to vote" thing. Also making DC a state, so two more dem senators.

All of these are State level action items.

Not DC, but I think this is what we can start looking forward to, especially after Biden's announcement that they will be redefining "domestic terrorist". Every big corporation is going to panic react first, and maybe, if it doesn't get them in trouble with the people who lied about an incident in the first place, correct their mistake after the innocent victim has been social media shamed. I'm not counting on the latter.

I only thank God everyday that I'm no longer in any kind of position where people could cancel me like this.

The states that would implement such measures aren’t the problem states.

You don't think there's enough sensible bipartisan support in Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Florida and the like to implement any of that?

Gotta keep in mind, there was a lot of Trump hate that crept into what are typically Red voters.

And this issue can be sold to the public in a populist manner quite easily.

Sadly, no I don't. The only way you will get bipartisan support is if the dem ox is gored by what you want to fix. Right now, all that stuff is an advantage to them.

Then BLM style riotous behavior is the only solution, short of real revolution.  Make life so uncomfortable for them that they yield, much the same as the BLM tactic.
