Inquiring minds want to know: did the nail polish remover (acetone) work? Since that would have been the first thing I would think of that is relatively non-toxic, with isopropyl alcohol as a Plan B.

I used it to clean the SU carbs on my 240Z. Cleaned 'em right up, it did.

Wife2 used to mix isopropyl with acetone nail polish remover.

Apparently there was some kind of cosolvent action there. I remember reading in Hatcher that nitrocellulose was dissolved in a mixture of ether and alcohol (types of ether and alcohol not specified) to form the goo which was extruded to form the smokeless powder grains. The cosolvency was implied.

I recall smelling ether when opening a fresh can of powder.

In any case, I sure wouldn't want to get acetone in the eyes. Maybe that's why the hospital recommended acetone-dampened pads.

But this whole "incident" is so ridiculous I have to question its authenticity. Maybe genuine, maybe not, but it still begs the question.

Seems like it's time for her to bite the bullet and get shorn like a sheep and wear wigs for the nonce.
