Purpose of Red Flag Laws
« on: April 19, 2021, 08:51:21 PM »
It doubt it will shock anyone here if the assertion was made that the purpose of Red Flag Laws isn't to protect society but to have a tool to confiscate firearms.  Well Ryan Mears, the prosecutor for Marion County (where the Brandon Hole murdered eight people in Indianapolis) has provided proof of that.  The family had reported him as a threat and the police confiscated a shotgun.  Explaining why they didn't utilize the existing red flag law, Mr. Mears said:

Quote
“If we move forward with that proceeding, and we lose, guess what happens: that firearm goes right back to that person,” he said. “We weren’t willing to take that.”

Again I don't think his logic is surprising, I just thought I would mention this in case anybody is discussing this topic with a person capable of being convinced by evidence.
