Amusing TV commercials
« on: June 19, 2021, 07:02:26 AM »
For a whiIe was thinking I must be getting smarter until I realized that it was because by comparison, the TV commercials were getting dumber.

But it seems recently the ad people themselves started to realize how stupid a lot of their output was.  I know there are fads, like animal mascots, and disasters like the Erin Esurance ads (which see), but I'm seeing an improvement.

So after al these years of watching TV (and I'm doing more of it since retirement), I have finally decided that the absolute best commercials lately (as if there were an annual Academ Awards for TV ads), are the Bill Swift ads for Flex Seal.

The one where he's a giant who goes around Flex Sealing dams and water towers and whatnot was what tipped the nominations in Flex Seal's favor. The water tower workers gettting doused was hilarious.

Your nomination?

I remember some of these beer commercials from when I was working in TV in Portland years back.

We engineers used to look forward to watching the Blitz Weinhard commercials with Vern and Earl smuggling Schludwiller beer into Oregon when they first arrived at the station.  Funny stuff.

If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

This is a good ad I remember seeing on tv - I know some people like the guy in the ad.

I like these ads - especially the second. (Don't think they ran in the USA)

I remember this ad as one of the few that involved a prison scene:

Between Liberty Mutual and Progressive, those are 2 sets of insurance commercials I find intolerable.
