Blackberry cobbler (in a Dutch oven)
« on: June 24, 2021, 11:42:50 AM »
The granddaughters are coming for a few days visit. The wild blackberries are plentiful this year. I picked a quart last night just walking around the edge of the yard. A LOT more if willing to leave the short grass and wade into them a little.
I haven’t tried cowboy chef Kent Rollins recipe yet but I have another stump I want to burn out and I might as well use the heat outside and not use the oven.
I think I can get the girls to turn the crank for some old fashioned handmade vanilly ice cream to go with it.

I remember visiting my grandparents in the summer (Alabama), blackberry cobblers and Campho-Phenique for the chiggers. An occasional snake which made picking those things all the more exciting. Those are some memory making times you have going there!

They'll get a kick out of cooking it in a cast iron Dutch oven on a stump. They are teenagers but we don’t have tee vee or WiFi out here. They are really good about doing anything with us. I taught one of them to weld when she was eleven. Everything we do is different from anything they do. It’s nice they don’t mind hanging out with us.

I just watched that Kent Rollins video last week and was thinking I want to try it.  =)

I love his videos - he's a hoot.

We do dump cake which is basically a cobbler. Its just quicker since its fruit, boxed cake mix, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.
