Here we go again
Don't know if you've kept up with the news from Haiti but their President was just assassinated, in his own home no less, and the country is in turmoil

I see also that of the persons captured after the assassination, a couple of them are Haitian-Americans, and at least six used to be in the Columbian Army.  I will be interested to see the reason for the assassination.

The 2nd time today this sentiment seems appropriate -

Lift off and nuke the site from high orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Fuuuuuuuuck that.

I've been to Port-au-Prince once in uniform. There's nothing there we need, and nothing we can fix.

Yea...

Facts:
Haiti is a sovereign nation.
Instability in Haiti does not present a global/US security issue. (Loose nuke, etc)

Conclusion:
It would be inappropriate for the united states or any other country to deploy military force in response to the internal affairs of another sovereign nation.  The people of Haiti have the right to determine their own destiny free of outside influences.

Well... it really should, in my opinion.  But maybe that's why I'm not in control of such things.

Remember when Trump outraged all right thinking people by calling Haiti a @$!#hole?

And Conan O'Brien took a vacation in Haiti to prove what a wonderful country it was...

I do.

Many of the troops we send will feel right at home.

This seems like it falls under the UN's umbrella. Doesn't Somolia have some troops we can slap a blue helmet on and ship to Haiti?

I agree with that last.  They need to clean up their own mess.  Using outside influence to clean it up doesn't solve the problem.

The resort Conan stayed at was a few miles from one the world's largest slums.  He didn't go there.

Little suprise there.

I have been to a few foreign cities/countries in the Western Carribean. Belize City was probably the worst. We took a city tour where the “prosperous” area of the city was like inner city Detroit or LA and the shantytown slums was absolutely horrifying as to the condition people were living in. Outside of the waterfront and resorts Cozumel is a very rough city that looks very nasty.

Places like that earn the shithole title. You won’t catch any American leftist in those areas either.

Each and every one of those countries

When we were flying out of Djibouti in the 80/90s we would stay in our 90 dollar a night fancy hotel with a casino in the basement. On the way in for an early morning preflight you had to be careful not to run over any lumps on the road, it could be people sleeping on the asphalt to stay warm. I also saw people living in large bushes with cardboard shoved in them to provide walls. There was a nice small area in town where the French Foreign Legion and other foreigners could get some decent food and drink. The rest of the city was a shithole. I imagine once they built that military base there a lot of people's fortunes changed while the abjectly poor stayed that way. There are shitholes all over the world.

the good news is it is a lot closer than Viet Nam
