Hurricane Ida = Hurricane Katrina on Steroids
« on: August 28, 2021, 06:29:39 PM »
They are saying that Hurricane Ida is the most powerful hurricane to hit the Louisiana coast since 1850. Looks like with everything else going on, it hasn't gotten a lot of news coverage.  If the predictions are accurate, it will be interesting to see what happens in NOLA this time around. Supposedly the new levees are able to take a storm of this magnitude.

Godspeed to our Louisiana members!

It does look like another big hit.  I know the rule is Democrat Mayor/Republican President = President's fault.  So Dem Mayor and Dem president?  I'm guessing it's the fault of Covid or maybe Trump did it somehow.

PS  I'm assuming that this storm will be serious, and more to the point the response will be as troublesome as it was in Katrina because of the damage.  I'm prepared to give credit to the Biden administration if they manage to come out looking good on this one.  We'll see.

Well, at least a lot of New Orleans is still uninhabitable since Katrina so the homelessness and such should be less. ;)

Let's see - build a city below sea level on a coast prone to hurricanes, divert levee money to casinos, fill the city with Democrats . . . who else but a Republican could hatch a plan that evil?
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Trump must of found Bush's hurricane control device and just like Bush did with Katrina is steering Ida toward black communities.

We are way up on the Arkansas/Texas corner of Louisiana and don't anticipate a whole lot of damage. Now the cost, on the other hand, is screwed.

Why does Joe Biden hate brown people?

IIRC it was for a short period of time out in the gulf but had degraded to a 3 when it made landfall.

FEMA had a metric boatload of house trailers that they never used after Katrina. They should be all set after this one.

I found this interesting compared to Katrina: People are tweeting their addresses asking for rescue. This looks to be just as serious as Katrina was, so  I wonder if social media and the current interwebz has kept people from doing the stadium walk. The first iPhone wasn't released until two years after Katrina. For this hurricane, everybody has smart phones, and it appears this has changed how people react.

During Katrina I remember reading regular blog posts from a guy who was riding it out in a datacenter in New Orleans.

Pretty sure this is the one I read:

Update:  all of New Orleans is without power.  All 8 transmission lines have been lost.  This is affecting the city's ability to pump stormwater out and their ability to pump sewage.

That one building that Ida knocked down?

In the pre-Ida photo it looks like there's no roof on the building -- it's just 4 walls.

Did really not much happened or is the MSM largely ignoring it because a D is in the WH this time?
