In formal boxing, I was told that facial hair was undesirable because it caused cuts.
The "because" was a slightly glancing blow with the gloves would tend to slide over the skin, whereas with a beard, it would stretch the skin and tear it.
Anyone else hear it like this?
Anyhow, I always wondered how the grant proposal writers got away with getting money to research stuff like this. I must learn that skill.
