Flower Bombing
« on: September 28, 2021, 03:07:20 AM »
Pokin' around search engines I came across the term "Flower Bombing."

Say, whut?  Who would  want to bomb flowers?  Or use flowers as bombs?  Some kind of expression of romantic love?

It all came clear at 1:50 and following:

I figured it was just a nickname for it.

Sounds like someone can't spell flour correctly.

Seems to me if they were that into it, it wouldn't be too difficult to rig a release on the undercarriage and a bomb sight.  Dive bombing would be interesting also.

Dive bombing would be interesting also.

The stress of the dive and pullout would break most aircraft.
Now if someone showed up in an old SBD or Stuka................. Any D3As still flying?

Edit: Wiki says one D3A currently under restoration

Several SBDs still in existence:

The list at the link does not include this airworthy example, for some reason:

The local summer airshow usually has flour bombing.  It usually seems to be won by a local guy with a STOL Super Cub with leading edge slats and enormous flaps.  You can see him leaning out the side window and chucking the flour out at about 35 knots.

http://cubcrafters.com/topcub this company is in the process of moving their manufacturing to Arlington, so I look forward to seeing them in the local pattern.

Boy, there's always someone who wants to stretch the rules.  Why not use real bombs, too, for a closer approach to reality?

Why bother with precision?  Bring in a restored B-29 and carpet-bomb the whole airfield with flour.

You really need a JU-87 for that iconic shriek.

You could mount a deer whistle on the plane.
