I strongly oppose the whole virgins marrying thing. Mostly because men are crap in the sack without practice and woman don't know what's good until they've tried a few.

Man Love Thursday?

Holy Cow, never heard of that before.  I'm neither for nor against homosexuality or same-sex marriages or a host of other blue-law things that are none of my business, like cows that are holy.

That's a new one on me.  Another interesting way that popular culture can override religious strictures.

I was in a very strict evangelical church for two yrs, I enjoyed the serious rules WRT dating, it alleviated worrying. unfortunately I guess I am not marriage material

When researching our society's infatuation with strange sexual preferences...

Go to Pornhub, and search "amish," "mormon," "catholic schoolgirl," or "stepsister."

There's some weird stuff going on out there...

You think those are the strange ones?  They are pretty universal archtypes of either innocence and/or power dynamics.

The drive for schoolgirl porn and the drive to insist your wife is a virgin on her wedding night are pretty similar, actually.

For a long-term historical perspective, search-engine <archaeological porn>.

I can't post a direct link, and be warned, most images would not be safe for work (NSFW).

From the search-engine hits:

"As with any archaeological find it may well have had a ritual meaning, but it is also possible that our ancestors were like us and simply preferred their porn 3D. 9 Pompeii Brothel Pictures. Pompeii was a cosmopolitan port."

You might also try <nose art.>, although much of that somehow morphed into the "publically acceptable" category.

No social stricture is permanent. Not too long go, referring to ladies' legs was outré and they were referred to as "limbs" in polite society.

In days of old, a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking, now Heaven knows.... anything goes.

Pretty sure that's not why someone would insist that their wife be a virgin.

Well, yes and no. The groom who insists on a virgin bride is, ideally, driven by the same concern for moral and/or physical purity that motivated him to also go to the altar as a virgin himself. The guy who prefers schoolgirl pron may do so because he knows there's some reason why he should be attracted to a virgin, even if he doesn't know why, and probably doesn't let it carry into his actual relationships - if he has any.

Obviously, there are other reasons some men might want to marry a virgin. As for actresses playing schoolgirls, to what extent does the viewer even think of them as virginal in today's culture?
