Top 10 States for Gun Owners - 2021 Edition

Opinions may vary but a pretty good analysis.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Nice find Larry.  Thanks.

I'm surprised SD didn't make the list.

From 10 to 1 his list is:

Texas
Arizona
Tennessee
Oklahoma
Wyoming
Montana
Missouri
Utah
Idaho
New Hampshire

if you don't want to watch the video.

His list seems arbitrary.  Has nothing to do with age of Constitutional Carry legislation.  Doesn't seem to correlate to cost of living or FFL availability for ranking these 10.  There's no explanation why, for instance, Arizona is better than Texas.

They mentioned Texas has long been overrated as a pro-gun state which is fair.

I’m not sure I put much stock into that list either, though.

'Twas once upon a time all one had to do is get the Brady list of their worst gun-owning States and pick their top ten worst for our list of the ten best states for gun owners.

That method always struck me as having inherent validity, it dood.

I miss the Washington state of 1975.  We had shall issue years before the carry rights movement even took off.
But the leftists moved in, and the tech sector billionaires made their million (s) dollar contributions, and funded the initiatives and that was that.  The last couple of initiatives that really gutted gun rights here were backed by about six or seven dotcom billionaires who outspent the entire states grass roots opposition by a huge margin.
The initiative process was supposedly designed to get laws passed when the legislature was unresponsive to the will of the people. And it would normally take a lot of people  contributing to effect a change. Now it is a overwhelmingly well funded tool of the ultra rich and special interest groups.

I always wonder if people outside Texas have an overinflated view of what Texas is in reality.  It doesn't matter.  If 10 or more states rank better that is because a bunch of states have good gun laws which would be great for the country.

Quoted for truth, witness COmmierado.

More than a decade ago I heard from one of my grapevines that Colorado was the next target for the Leftist Heavy Money Juggernaut, and after that, Wyoming.

I poo-pooed that, figuring Coloradans were too smart for that.  So now we have a Leftist Legislature, Leftist Governor, and most of the small elected positions are filled by "members of that other party."  I also noticed that party affiliations were no longer included in the political ads for some reason.

Well, I was wrong and here we are, and I expect that Wyoming is next on the list, and G-d or St. John M. help you all.

Regarding AZ's post, I did a quick search. These are mostly for 2020-2021. I kinda took whatever came up first in the search. Some are gun sites, some are not. I was too lazy to format.

Not real research, but as a quick and dirty, I suppose you can look at the states that consistently come up somewhere in each list.

4. Kansas
An emergency powers bill designed to protect gun owners was passed during a Special Legislative Session, but the measure was vetoed by Gov. Kelly. Nonetheless, firearms-related businesses were exempt from the Governor’s COVID-19 shutdown order. (2019 rank: 4)

3. Alaska
No relevant outcomes in 2020. (2019 rank: 3)

2. Idaho
The big news for gun owners in Idaho this year was Governor Brad Little’s signature on a permitless carry bill in March. Permitless carry was already legal for Idaho residents, but this legislation extends the law to cover all U.S. Citizens over the age of 18 to carry, including in the cities. With this slight change in law, Idaho ties the number one state in terms of points. (2019 rank: 2)

1. Arizona
No relevant outcomes in 2020. Arizona remains number one on our list due to its thriving competitive shooting scene and firearms industry presence. (2019 rank: 1)

Now cross reference with states that have the strictest restrictions on asset forfeiture.
Or to put it another way, those that still believe we have a 4th amendment.
Damned small overlap.

That is definitely something Texas needs to clean up.  I don't think it is a big thing in most places, but I have seen stories where some cities/counties are notorious for doing it.

I only skimmed that, but it's kinda sad that it appears for the most part, that the best gun states are the worst asset forfeiture states. Further annoyance is that DC of all places has a high rating.

I think that's because Republicans (who make less bad gun policy) tend to be Law and Order types who assume that by supporting more funding for police departments they are supporting good policing.

As bad as asset forfeiture is, does it actually affect that many people's lives, that you would choose your state on that basis?

Single issue? No. As a consideration? Yes. Like the tax status.    A little story.

Some years ago, I went to look at a dirt bike for sale, in a rural area. There was a pole barn and a doublewide there, and an old guy, WW2 and Korea vet, one of those who went from ground-pounder to pilot. He flew F84's and then in the sixties ended up as a squadron commander in F106's. So he starts talking and I find out his son had been growing pot on a corner of his old, very nice, previously owned property. They took his entire property, and left him with little. He hated the US government, the same government he had spent his entire like in service to. That is one of the aspects the report I posted talked about- third party confiscation- to the point, in some cases, your car could be stolen, used in a crime, and confiscated, because the car was the criminal.
One of the very few actions Eric Holder did as AG that I approved of , was to try to reduce this forfeiture BS, probably because a lot of poor blacks were getting ripped off by it. In most cases it is theft under color of law. The minimum standard should be this- if a person is not found guilty in a criminal trial, their assets should not be forfeit. In most cases, charges are never even brought, and in most states, the money, or much of it, goes directly to the law enforcement that took it.
It is like letting the cops have half of every ticket they hand out. I think the states should be hit with RICO  charges, myself.
