Soviet Union holds a huge amount of blame.  They effectively turned their gulags into bioreactors.  They would give TB patients only a partial or reduced course of the antibiotic regimen required to cure it, and then they housed those patients with uninfected prisoners and let it all stew for a couple decades.  It was after the collapse that some of these prisoners started making it back into the connected world and started sharing their new antibiotic resistant strain of TB.

^^^I have attended some lectures in which this very thing was discussed.  Seattle has a relatively small Russian/Soviet population, but when working up one of them (especially a middle-aged male) for respiratory issues, it was suggested to ask if they had been in a Russian/Soviet prison.

I have heard TB mentioned in reports about diseases carried across the Southern border for years.  I guess it hasn't been in such numbers that is has overwhelmed anyone yet.

This isn't just a Southern Border problem. At all.

Drug resistant TB has been a concern for decades in the United States, especially among homeless, mentally ill and prison populations (often the same thing).

That fact sheet deals primarily with multi-drug resistant forms of TB, which is a LOT more concerning.

Most of the homegrown TB that's an issue still responds to one of the other first line drugs.

Birth control is waning. Abortions are too horrific. Seems they have to use other methods to thin the population. You know, kill off the old, the infirm, etc., with diseases. I could be wrong, but it sure fits as a means to an end.

After all, you elect them and send them to Capitols and call them lawmakers and guess what?

They make laws.

Needed or not, sensible or not, that's what we pay them for.

And they can always weasel-word a justification for the laws to be "for the health, benefit, and welfare of the people."

I figure strict term limits are a start toward eliminating this problem, but you ain't gonna get legislatures to pass term limitations.  They have to be instituted by referendum.

Of course, it is said that with term limits, nothing would get done in the Legislatures.
