George Friedman at Geopolitical Futures recently commented on criticism of Lincoln with the following words that seem equally appropriate in this context:
“We must all be judged, but we must be judged on the whole. And we all have to be judged in the context of the time in which we live and the limits that are placed on us. How many of us would want to be judged by the standards of the year 2300? There is no life that isn’t flawed, no moment in that life that we do not regret, but those who focus only on the failures are themselves guilty of at least poor judgment, and at most malicious intent.”
Given it’s the Washington Post bashing The Greatest Generation, I would vote for malicious intent.
