Arcane on Netflix
« on: January 13, 2022, 11:33:23 AM »
I haven't been watching much TV these past couple years.  One of the benefits of cutting cable out.  I also missed any advertising for this show before it came out, but Netflix's algorithm pitched me the animated show "Arcane" the other day, and since I'm home from work, I gave it a shot.  Holy Cow, it's really good.  Good writing, good animation, good voice acting, good characterization, just good.

It's a steampunk dystopian future story that is based on some of the characters from an online game called League of Legends, which I have never played, so I went into this cold.  MMO's aren't my style, so I don't see myself playing it in the future either.  Not a big deal as this show stands on it's own.  It doesn't require any knowledge of the game.

The show is basically the story of two sisters trying to navigate life in this dystopian world, and what happens when circumstances force them apart and onto different paths.  There's some political maneuvering from the upper classes, corrupt politicians and cops, street gangs, and underworld crime bosses, along with magic.  I blew through the first season in two days.

Highly recommend if you have some hours to kill.

It also has a great soundtrack.
