Even though there's no single stolid definition of a Beatnik this one seems to fit many people I see today

I went through all those "categories" without realizing I was in a category.  I just did stuff my way.

You could say I survived Pearl Harbor since I was alive then and still am.but that joke falls flat nowadays.
