Cuban black bean stew
« on: December 16, 2023, 04:33:03 PM »
I picked up an awesome big smoked ham shank on sale ($2.29 per pound) and begged my wife to make her stew.
I have posted the recipe here before. I'm salivating...

I love me some Cuban black beans. My wife used to work with a Cuban immigrant and I would send banana bread and pumpkin bread home with him and his mother would send back black beans.

Hers is similar to a chili but thick and smoky with the ham shank, lots of onions and Carribian spices.
Her original recipe used smoked ham hocks but smoked ham shank is mucho better.
