It sounds as if she died from metastatic cancer with primary sites in her breasts and lungs.  She was quite the singer as well as her break-out role in 'Grease'.

I'd heard she wasn't doing well. She's been battling cancer off and on since the mid 1990s.

when I was a pure rocker/punk rocker in the seventies, I used to make fun of her and her fans.

 Now I am genuinely sad at her passing.

Those sexy glossy shiny slinky pants (or whatever they were) in Grease drove me boogeynuts and I loved her all to bits.
