Magpul to make a "coleman lantern" gun.. :)
« on: February 05, 2008, 07:33:09 PM »
This thing looks sweet, I hope it makes it into production.  I can here the girls in the office now, "hey what's that thing on your desk, OH that's my new extra large battery operated flashlight, yeah that's the ticket"

What they need to make is a civvie-legal version where the barrel (16.5" in length) is spring-loaded, and pops out and down (think Kel-Tec Sub2000) whe you hit "da switch."  shocked grin

I think Magpul is kinda getting ahead of itself right now- they had the Masada planned- then had to farm some of it out to Bushmaster. Then, they are saying they are going to produce that personal defense weapon, and now, this...

I don't like it and I can't see a realistic use for it except maybe a James Bond spoof film.

Wait a sec...  Is this Magpul like the Magpul that makes those little rubber loop jobbies so you can pull your magazines out of the pouch?

Yeah, the same Magpul that makes the Magpul stock, the excellent magazines, and is now trying to make firearms.

They are a good company, with some pretty good ideas, but I think they need to concentrate on stuff they've already got planned- like the Masada rifle and that little PDW, and forget this idea...

Already got a Sub 2000.

Don't need another one that costs five times as much.

Looks to me like they're trying to make a civilian legal version of the old FMG http://www.militaryfactory.com/smallarms/detail.asp?smallarms_id=112

I MIGHT be interested in one, depending on the price...

Very cool. I think someone high-up at Magpul is a fan of "Ghost In The Shell" and other Anime...  grin Their micro bullpup .223 PDW has me drooling too. Glue and cracks in the dummy plastic mockup at last year's SHOT and all...

Although, in reality, this is just the Ares folding SMG of 1980's vintage re-done with a Glock slide and polymer. Our own Oleg has several shots of one in his galleries. It's all metal, and uses some UZI parts, IIRC.

http://olegvolk.net/gallery/technology/arms/uniqueguns/SMG28.jpg.html

I love my earlier all-metal Kel-Tec Sub9. It probably sees more use than any of my other two firearms combined, since it's a long-gun, yet firing 9mm, gets more impromptu use at indoor ranges that are pistol-caliber only, which is good for a regrettably suburban creature such as myself, living in WI where the weather is likely to be bad half the year as well. I do wish my Kel-Tec subrifle had cleaner lines like this Magul concept though and looked less "gun like" when folded.

Does a very good job of satisfying the "NFA bug" without actually being NFA. As long as it's got a 16" barrel, and can't be fired when it's closed/folded under the minimum NFA OAL of 26", you ought to be golden.
I promise not to duck.

Looks very much like a FMG clone.  I started on plans to machine semi-auto FMG's in the shop, but it's stalled since I started my new job.
