Has anyone to date discovered a decent "instant" bacon? You know, the "zap it for 5 seconds in the nuker" stuff...
Well, I did find the perfect pre-cooked bacon, but it's actually quite labor intensive. Start with one box of Oscar Meyer pre-cooked bacon. Throw it in the bottom of a box. Fill the rest of the box with MRE's and assorted other camping gear. Drive several hours north, from late fall into ten inches deep worth of white, cold winter. Camp for two days next to a big waterfall. Have a lovely time. Get sick with a cough and fever overnight. Break camp next morning, feeling crappy and about frozen solid. Skip breakfast to facilitate the breaking of camp.
Just before hitting the road, set the box of bacon on a heating vent.
Ten miles out, make some sandwiches with white bread, mayo, and the lukewarm pre-cooked bacon. Crispy, crunchy, lukewarm goodness!
That was about the best-tasting, most awesome sandwich of my life.
Ordinarily though, I stick with cooking my own. It takes an *awful* lot of effort to get the pre-cooked stuff to taste that good. And over a year later I still have that danged cough...
